Literacy in a Lockdown

Book Distribution Drive by IQRA Dwij Foundation

During a time when classrooms shut their doors, this campaign ensured that learning never stopped for children from underserved communities.

As the COVID-19 pandemic swept across the globe in 2020–21, its ripple effects were far-reaching and dramatic. Children from underserved communities, often reliant on public schooling for education, were disproportionately affected. Amidst these dark times, the IQRA Dwij Foundation emerged as a beacon of hope.

Recognizing the looming learning crisis caused by prolonged school closures, the Foundation resolved to act. They devised a comprehensive initiative to support children in continuing their educational journey through a widespread book distribution drive.

The ambitious project, titled “Literacy in a Lockdown”, aimed not only to distribute books but to bring the world of knowledge into the homes of children confined by the pandemic. It created a safe space where imagination and curiosity could thrive.

Volunteers and educators carefully curated books for different age groups from textbooks and general knowledge compilations to literature classics and inspiring biographies fostering both academic learning and a culture of self-learning.

Distribution posed its own challenges. With lockdown restrictions and health risks, the Foundation collaborated with local authorities to establish a strict “no-contact” delivery model. Volunteers, equipped with PPE, ensured books reached families safely.
